Machu Picchu wins tourism prize for best environmental fate of South America
Machu Picchu was featured as the best eco-destination in South America by the World Travel Award 2010, an institution with 17 years of experience that recognizes and celebrates excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry and travel the world, informed the Commission Promotion of Peru Export and Tourism (PromPeru).
The award, which has its own categories, covering all continents, is considered by the prestigious journal estadouidense The Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars” of the tourist world.
This distinction was established on October 22 in Jamaica. Machu Picchu was imposed on other applicants destinations such as the Pantanal in Brazil and Argentina’s Patagonia.
This is the second award for Peru by the World Travel Award in 2009 for PromPerú won for best tourism promotion office.
“This award shows that the tourism sector has an impact on the economic, social and environmental aspects of country, “said Rocio Merino, Director of Tourism Promperú.
